Would a Real-Life Superhero Have Any Foes to Fight?
When thinking about the real-life superheros we might need to protect the world, the Islamic State and its associated terrorist organizations seem like some of the most plausible antagonists. Similarly, various criminal cartels and human trafficking rings come to mind. However, if we were to consider an actual supervillain who could be captured or defeated through simple means like beating him up or arresting him, that's a completely different and challenging scenario.
The Case of Batman
Now, if you are a die-hard DC nerd, you might be ready to argue this point. But, I believe that while Batman is an incredibly equipped and strategic superhero, he is, at the end of the day, a human being. I, for one, would choose to have super speed, super intelligence, and superhuman strength. These abilities would allow me to outrun, outsmart, and outstrengthen Batman, giving me a clear edge in any confrontation.
Improving Lives Over Fictitious Battles
When it comes to addressing the real issues, such as poverty, homelessness, and human trafficking, I don't concern myself with the fictional battles of superheroes. The focus should be on improving the lives of the countless individuals who suffer every day due to these conditions. While these problems don't often make for thrilling comic books or blockbuster movies, addressing them could lead to exponential positive change in society.
Protecting Loved Ones
When the issue at hand involves the well-being or potential harm to one's family and friends, the stakes become infinitely higher. With powers that could even defeat beings of cosmic level, like The Living Tribunal, the potential to protect loved ones would be unmatched. The universe would not be big enough to find the time to bring justice to those who hurt those close to me, and with such power, the journey would be worth every second spent on restoring peace and justice.
Would a real-life superhero have any foes to fight, or would their primary mission be to improve the human condition? While the former would be a thrilling narrative, the latter has the potential to create a more enduring impact. The choice is ours to make, but the actions we take today will shape the world we live in tomorrow.
