Navigating the Male Decline: Challenges and Insights into Chamber Music Persistence

Observing the changes in the composition of my orchestra over the years, I have noticed a significant trend of declining participation among male students. This trend extends from my 6th grade class to the current junior year in high school. Initially, when the orchestra program began, there were around 20 boys participating. However, by junior year, the number had drastically reduced to just four. This phenomenon raises several intriguing questions about the challenges faced by boys in orchestras and the potential reasons behind this decline.
