Exploring Inexperienced Assumptions and Technological Marvels
From a young age, people make many assumptions based on their limited experiences and imagination. In this article, we delve into several instances of childhood assumptions that turned out to be surprisingly incorrect due to evolving technology and new discoveries.
My Childhood Assumptions and Technological Developments
As a child, I held some intriguing but ultimately baseless beliefs. For instance, I used to think of God as a waste of time. It was not just a waste of time figuratively but also a literal waste of time, much like engaging in any mind-numbing activity. During my formative years, I was frequently exposed to churches, but my perspective did not change, and now it serves as a protective mechanism to avoid potential consequences.
Contrary to my early assumptions, technology has brought about many unimaginable changes in our lives. Particularly, I vividly recall pondering the future of communication, imagining a sentient AI with a cellular modem in my college years. This was not just a pipe dream; it was similar to the smartphones we use today.
Another childhood fantasy was the idea of global real-time communication via television. Although it may sound outdated compared to modern video conferencing tools like Skype, it was a fascinating vision for me back then. It is astonishing to think that what was once a distant dream is now a commonplace reality, seamlessly connecting individuals across the globe.
Unveiling My Childhood Theories
Age and size were theories I held strongly during my youth. I believed that taller individuals were older, a notion that seemed to hold true with my family members. My brother was taller, and similarly, our mother was taller than my brother, and our father was the tallest among us.
However, this theory was quickly debunked when a family friend visited with his mother. The mother was several inches shorter than her son, which was initially bewildering to me. I could not fathom a mother of a grown son being shorter, and this disquieted me immensely. Fortunately, my mother intervened and explained that my theory was incorrect due to genetic or biological variations that do not follow a rigid rule.
The Mystery Behind Stern Teachers
Another childhood assumption I had was about stern teachers. I imagined that their stern demeanor might be due to them being doppelg?ngers of an alien invasion plot, as in the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
This belief stemmed from a time when I was impressionable and had a vivid imagination. Yet, as I grew older, I realized these teachers were just individuals who were passionate about their students' successes. They were human, and their sternness was a form of showing care and concern for the well-being of their students.
Technology has consistently challenged and reshaped our assumptions. From the belief that AI was a distant sci-fi concept to the realization that real-time global communication is a reality, these experiences remind us of how much our world has evolved. Childhood theories, both correct and incorrect, are stepping stones in our learning journey, shaping our perceptions and understanding of the world.
A lesson we can all take from these experiences is to be open to new knowledge and to question our assumptions. The world is full of surprises, and many of these surprises are brought about by the wonders of technology and human ingenuity.
